Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by your guide who will brief you on the upcoming itinerary. Depending on your arrival time, you will take a city tour of Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda. This tour will introduce you to the modern and historical aspects of the city. Including its bustling markets, historical sites, and cultural landmarks. You will visit the Genocide Memorial Centre, where you will learn about the 1994 Rwandan Genocide and the country’s efforts towards reconciliation and rebuilding. You will also visit the Kigali Art Museum. Which showcases contemporary Rwandan art and cultural artifacts. Overnight in Kigali

Day 2: Transfer to Butare
After breakfast, you will depart for Butare, the intellectual capital of Rwanda. The journey from Kigali takes about 3 hours and it is filled with scenic views of the countryside. Upon arrival in Butare, you will visit the Butare Cultural Museum, which showcases traditional artifacts and cultural practices. The museum’s exhibits include traditional clothing, musical instruments, and farming tools, among other cultural artifacts. You will also visit the National University of Rwanda, which has a strong focus on preserving and promoting Rwandan culture. Overnight in Butare.

Day 3: Explore Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast, you will depart for Nyungwe Forest National Park, which is located in the southwestern part of Rwanda. The park is home to a diverse array of wildlife and plant species, including chimpanzees, colobus monkeys, and over 300 bird species. You will take a guided nature walk or hike to explore the park and its unique ecosystem. In the afternoon, you can relax at your lodge or take an optional canopy walk, which offers a bird’s eye view of the park’s lush canopy. Overnight in Nyungwe Forest National Park.

Day 4: Experience Traditional Rwandan Culture
After breakfast, you will participate in a traditional Rwandan cooking class and learn how to prepare local dishes. Such as ugali (maize flour porridge), grilled goat meat, and beans. After cooking, you will enjoy a traditional lunch with your hosts. In the afternoon, you will visit a local village and learn about traditional crafts such as basket weaving and pottery making. You will also attend a traditional dance and music performance in the evening. Where you will learn about Rwandan culture through music and dance. Overnight in Nyungwe Forest National Park.

Day 5: Visit to Lake Kivu
After breakfast, you will depart for Lake Kivu, one of the largest lakes in Africa. The journey takes about 5 hours and offers stunning views of the countryside. Upon arrival at the lake, you will take a boat ride and visit some of the nearby islands. You will also visit the Imbabazi Orphanage, which was founded by an American woman who saved the lives of more than 400 children during the 1994 genocide. You will learn about the history of the orphanage and the impact it has had on the local community. Overnight in Lake Kivu.
