Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda is home to over 400 mountain gorillas, making it one of the best places in the world to go gorilla trekking. The gorillas in the park are divided into different families or groups. Here are some of the gorilla families that can be found in Bwindi National Park:

Mubare Family:

This is the oldest gorilla family in the park, consisting of 9 members, including one silverback.

Habinyanja Family:

This family has 18 members, including two silverbacks. The family is known for its playful juveniles.

Rushegura Family:

This family has 19 members, including one silverback. It is one of the most peaceful and gentle families in the park.

Bitukura Family:

This family has 14 members, including four silverbacks. It is one of the most organized families in the park.

Oruzogo Family:

This family has 25 members, including two silverbacks. The family known for its energetic juveniles.

Nkuringo Family:

This family has 12 members, including two silverbacks. known for having some of the largest gorillas in the park.

Bweza Family:

This family has 9 members, including one silverback. It is a new family that was formed in 2013.

Kahungye Family:

This family has 13 members, including three silverbacks. It is one of the newest families in the park, formed in 2011.

Nshongi Family:

This family has 25 members, including three silverbacks. It is the largest family in the park and was named after the river where it was first sighted.

It’s important to note that the composition of gorilla families can change over time as new offspring are born, and sometimes gorillas may move from one family to another.  Therefore, visitors to Bwindi National Park must obtain a permit to go gorilla trekking, and these permits are limited to a certain number each day.
